Default Copy/Paste clip - deleting the pasted version also deletes original

1) separate clip at selection
2) copy
3) paste that to new location
4) I decide to delete the pasted clip (select and clear the pasted clip)
5) it also deletes the original separated clip

Is there some setting or different procedure for clear/delete that retains the original clip? There must be some way, I must be doing something wrong.

Thanks!

Are you clearing it on the track or in the CLIPS bin? The latter will remove other instances.

Thanks for confirming. You can right+click > Clear the Clip on the track to leave other instances.
