Re: Firewire Drive Defragment Software?
Easiest would be to just buy another cheap, large external hard drive. Copy to it, erase original disk, copy back. No fragmentation.

Re: Firewire Drive Defragment Software?
Defragmenting modern drives is a waste of time IMHO. If your drive is so full that fragmentation is a problem then you need more storage.

Re: Firewire Drive Defragment Software?
I agree with tele player. Buy or find space on another drive, copy the files over, wipe the original drive and copy the files back over. It's safe, faster and will defrag your drive.
But if you just have to use a defrag prog I've heard good things about iDefrag. http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/25411 |

Re: Firewire Drive Defragment Software?
I bought iDefrag, placed my 80GB powerbook in to target disk mode and proceeded to defrag from my iMac. It took 5 hrs to defrag the drive and i noticed no performance enhancement whatsoever, a total waste of time.
Cheers

Re: Firewire Drive Defragment Software?
I took 2 classes from Avid in Burbank about 10 years ago, and their recomendation was never defrag media drives, just system drive. After a project is done, reformat the media drives.
I still live by these rules...... |
