Default Soft synth RAM and PT

Today I loaded NI Elektric Piano on our PT system as an RTAS virtual instrument. The synth sounds really nice but the samples are huge and at some point it streams from the disk.
There's a preference panel that lets you adjust how much ram you load. I was thinking about adjusting the prefs.for loading all the patch in ram (about a gig) and since i have 2 Gig Ram installed, I would have 1 gig left for ProTools and the OS.

My question would be: I I understand that under XP no program can use more than 1 gig of memory. If I load the Elektric Piano inside Pro Tools as an RTAS plug, what RAM memory uses? The aplication (Ptools) memory or it loads in their own memory alocation?

thanks for any info on this.

Ric

Default Re: Soft synth RAM and PT

Windows XP processes can access up to 2GB of memory. Plugins loaded in ProTools become part of the ProTools process, so ProTools and the plugin are constrained to 2GB.
