Hi,

If the "beep" sound comes from your HD it could be close to dying on you.
Twice I've lost HD's (external) and they were both "beeping" a week or so before. All drives dies at some point
and for me the beeping sound was the last warning, that something - not right - was going on.

Hopefully it's something else, but if it is the HD - BACK UP NOW !!

My Dual 2.7 has beeped since the day I got it.

My friend had a Dual 2.3 and has the exact same noise since day one also.

Yes this is "normal" for certain G5s. Normal, maybe, but super annoying for sure. The only way to stop it entirely is to install the CHUD tools (part of the developer tools on the OS install disk). This will give you a processor control panel in your system preferences. If you then turn "nap mode" off, the beeping will stop. This may cause the G5 to run a bit hotter, but the consensus on the Apple forums is that it will not cause any serious harm to your processors.

The beeping has to do with heat dissipation somehow.
