Replacing Avid Xmon with Ginger Audio Sphere
Hello,
The old Xmon quit working (doesn't pass audio) so the quick fix was to install Ginger Audio Sphere. It works for monitoring but still need to iron out quite a few details. The com mic and headphone cue were coming from the S6 and need to be reworked into Sphere. The HD io that used to go into Xmon are now patched directly into the speakers which is very dangerous if playing back old sessions (full power playback). The recommended routing is using aux io to round trip through Sphere. It works but seems clunky to have to do that to all the old sessions. Do you import old sessions in a new template that has Sphere set up as the monitor ? Also I'm hearing random micro glitches occasionally (is that a feature of the aux io loosing sync? ) If you have some suggestions to streamline the set up it would be greatly appreciated. Re: Replacing Avid Xmon with Ginger Audio Sphere
Just an opinion, but I would either replace the Xmon, or get a hardware monitor controller. The Audient Nero gets great reviews if you don't need surround.

Re: Replacing Avid Xmon with Ginger Audio Sphere
Unless you can use DADmom(don't know what interfaces you have), that's my suggestion, but please take it as just that. Others may have some better ideas.

Re: Replacing Avid Xmon with Ginger Audio Sphere
I have the HD IO so no DADmon unfortunately. I keep inching along and making progress with Sphere though

Re: Replacing Avid Xmon with Ginger Audio Sphere
There’s nothing wrong with sphere. It’s great software and is very flexible as well as controllable via Eucon on your S6.
As far as routing, Aux IO is a good method. Another is Dante or a secondary hardware interface to/from Sphere. What’s your monitoring layout? Stereo? 5.1? Atmos? |
