Default Maintenance

I have been told on 3 different occasions by Digi Tech support that you should initialize your internal HD (running Sys Fold & Pro Tools Application) every 3-6 months as regular preventive maintenance. And by not using low-level formatting option you will not destroy any authorizations you have installed. I have also been told by some veterans that running Norton "optimization" will give the same outcome.

Two questions: 1)Do I really have to initialize or can I run Norton? 2) If I have to initialize will it destroy authorizations? What about "challenge-response authorizations?

I would love to hear from some of you experienced users about your success or failure in this area.

Thanks in advance!

(I can't in good conscience respond to this question because in so doing I would admit that I've never done any drive maintenance on my system drive and if I admited that, it might hear me and decide to take a dump right before tomorrow's session to punish me for my hubris. So I can't say anything. Sorry.)

Bump...... Thanks for the responses. All great info. I know there are some more pros out there with horror or not stories. And I'm sure there are alot of us who could learn from your wisdom.
Thanks again!
