Default Protools has like a 4 second Lag when i hit play on my I7 build!

Ok its not the count in and ive changed the Open-Ended Record Allocation. Ive also tried different hard drives and Firewire approved card and stock firewire on my x58a-ud3r. Ive also tried turning off Hyper threading and no luck. I have done some widows optimizations as well.

Any idea's or help would be great im falling way behind on my work :-(

Sounds like the highest possible buffer setting at work.
SOME Windows optimizations? You need to do all of em.

Also some times its fine and then it will do it but when i say its fine.....Its fine for like 10 seconds and then back to lag city! Its acting like there is something else using the cpu or something as it goes and stops it seems. Ive done the trouble shooting start up stuff and protools should be the only thing running and I have not installed any other software besides some plugins for protools.

It will even do this on a brand new session with no audio recorded.

I get this kind of thing if I forget to unplug my studio partner's USB drive which goes to sleep when not being used.
PT will periodically try to wake it up, and the whole thing hangs while it's doing so.
Do you have anything like this on your system?

Did you install all the stuff on the mobo disk, or just the bare minimum? Lots of that stuff is crap that will slow down your system. I only installed the audio and network drivers and my rig is pretty darn quick. Also, did you set RAM timings manually for your RAM, or just choose the AUTO setting? The AUTO setting defaults to the slowest and makes for crap performance. Better to set manually and input the settings for your RAM(mine was 7-7-7-20 for each slot, but yours may be different).
