Since July 2010 we saw no new models, there must be
something around soon...... and one thing I want to avoid,
buying a new machine and a week or two after, new Macs are
coming out.
About 1997 I bought a 9600 series Mac for my first big PT rig,
and about two weeks later there was G3s coming out.

So best is to wait with a new Mac at the moment
or buying from ebay a used one.
Yeah but be careful, if a new mac comes out, it might not be supported either with the HDX (untested and possible incompatibilities) Check on ebay, you might find a used mac that fits your need.

2 HDX cards is all most people would need.
Perhaps, cheaper than getting a new mac which was OPs original gripe

Buy a used Mac before buying an expansion chassis for HDX.

Even if he bought an expansion chassis, that doesn't change the fact that his system is unsupported, would the card even work (if they didn't fry) at all?

So.... no new untested Mac, no new actual Mac, no expansion chassis,
going to spain for a new one is far too expansive and has no sense,
waiting with the upgrade to HDX ..... would make sense if.... I can wait ?!
But I don't want to wait, so ....
.... I will sell my 8Core here in Morocco, far better than I would in Europe,
useful for small companies and creatives like photographers or
graphic designers. Then I look for a used one in europe. Have many friends in Paris
and from France shipping to Morocco is cheap.
This should work........sometimes it's nice to be far away from western Metropoles,
but if something goes wrong with equipment, replacement seems so far !!!

Thanks again !
Have a nice passing over to 2012 !!

I'm sure you'll be able to find what you need.

And you too!

Just tried an HDX card in a 3,1 Mac Pro (Harpertown).
I used a boot drive to boot into Lion with PT10.1 installed.
Pro Tools Launched. Didn't need to upgrade firmware - maybe that's because it has already been in our newer mac pro. Launched a session, played it back. Shut it down and put the card back in the supported Mac Pro.

This does NOT mean that it will work - it might fry your card as somebody suggested ..... who knows as this is totally not supported.

I just wanted to know if it would launch.
