So are u saying to use the dithered mixer. Will a mix be better using the dithered mixer, is it really that noticable.

yeah, thanks nick - thats the point I think... DO YOU HEAR THE DIFFERENCE???

thanks for all those theoretical stuff but I dont really care about bits when I`m working on tracks - I trust my ears - I cant hear any difference - but I do rock and pop music...

what about classical stuff?

Let's face it. The new mixer HD mixer is all 48 bit summing so the dithering is going to take place at nearly 300 db down from full scale. What possible difference could that make in the sound that human beings could detect? Because I live in the real world, I send out mixes for client approval as mp3 files. They either like what I have done or they hate it. Don't use audiofile obsessing as a excuse for why your work doesn't sound as good as someone else's. For the record, I use the 24 bit dithered mixer on a Mix system, but I don't think anyone else could spot the difference in a blind test, and it certainly wouldn't be the reason whether they liked my work or not.
