Default retaining region colors when copying

when I copy (or move) segments from one track to another for editing/assembling - is there a function somewhere (and what is it called) that keeps the region color the same instead of assuming the color of the track it's been moved to?

open the color palette window.
select the desired regions
make sure the color palette window's drop down menu is on region and select the desired color.

Its also possible to change the default region color in preferences > Display> Default Region Color Coding , though I don't know if any of the options provided will be what you want.

yes, of course I can change it afterwards - cumbersome, though, if you have lots of bits you're moving around

however .... I played around with Preferences > Display> Default Region Color Coding - Track Color doesn't do what I want - BUT Region List Color DOES!

if you set the color for the regions in the original tracks, then they stay the same if moved or copied to other tracks

voila!
