Default powering on 003

from the 003 guide:

5 Turn on the 003 series device.
6 Turn on your computer.

now, what would happen if my computer is already on and i then turned on the 003? do i always have to start with the computer shut down?

ive just ordered my 003 so wont have it yet but in a week or so when it arrives i dont want to blow the damn thing up.

You won't hurt anything BUT the computer may not recognize it and you will need to reboot. Also, don't hot patch the firewire cable.

cheers

i am coming from a PC that has used an mbox 2 for years you see. it always started up with the pc. lots of little things like this to think about that i had not given any thought to...

hence the really stupidly cautious question.

I complained about this a few days back. I think it has always been the case that you should do it in that order but I never had a problem with it prior to PT8. Now with PT8 the system didn't recognize iTunes sometimes if I turned on the computer first.

In general anything external should be turned on first and off last. Especially hard drives to insure the OS's buffers get flushed and you don't lose your last disk write.

I haven't noticed any problems with Digi core and itunes since upgrading to PT8 (I'm also running a 003). Weird.

FWIW, I turn on every piece of gear I have (except powered speakers) with a single switch. That includes:
003, 22" screens(x2)
Headphone amp
Presonus Forestudio
Focusrite ISA428
Dual core PC with several drives
Central Station
CD player
.............
The PC is set to boot on restoration of AC power so 1 switch fires up the works. Done it like this for 4 years with no problems. Any hard drives that are not connected when you open PT, will not be recognized by PT.
