How Do I Play Midi
I Just bought the Digi 001 box and I have problem playing midi files or imported midi files. Since I am a beginner with this tool I may have not followed the procedure. Would someone help in a step by step on how I can hear the playback of midi file. Do I need to go to the menu to setup some parameters or what. I can only see the bar going accross but not sound.
Thanks for your help ------------------ |

Re: How Do I Play Midi
You need either a midi keyboard or a sound module because the midi file is only events that trigger either your keyboard or module. Midi files contain no audio whatsoever. peace

Re: How Do I Play Midi
I do have a keyboard and the P2K sound module. I had hooked up everything the way I was told meaning: Midi OUT of Keyboard to Sound Module MIDI IN, MIDI OUT of sound module to MIDI IN of DIGI 001, Audio OUT of Sound module to INPUT 3 & 4 of DIGI 001. Do I need to reroute anything within the protools LE software.

Re: How Do I Play Midi
You need a midi out to your synth or module to play midifiles or recorded midi.
connect midi out of your keyboard to the midi in of your interface. midi out of interface to midi in of your sound module. So you can play and record midi. Match the midi channels. Transmit and receive should be the same. [This message has been edited by EL (edited December 01, 2000).] |

From you description, it appears you have your system hooked up correctly. In the mix window, go file, create a stereo aux track and route the input from input 3 & 4. You should be able to hear something at this point if there is some "bar" you can see. To import a midi file, go to file and import midi file, and then choose your file. It really is that easy. If you still can't hear anything, then you will need to set-up your module (P2K). You and the manual can figure that out. It's not a fun task setting up your module, but it's well worth it. Hope this helps. |

Re: How Do I Play Midi
Thanks guys, it got better now. I can now record and playback midi. The main problem was in the "Input filter" from the drop menu that I went and click on Midi setup, and the Input filter, once I got there the instrument selection was partial, it says "All except" so I chose the "All" button and I was in business.
The only other problem that I have is when I imported a midi file and try to play it, it's out of tune, it's like the instruments are defined properly. How do I get passed this? If I were to play the same midi file into my computer through my soundblaster live card, it plays so well. |
