Default Experience with PC\'s and PTLE for MAC user

Hello everyone. I am currently running a MAC 800mhx with 1.5 gig of ram and PTLE 6.7. I am in limbo right now. I want to get a G5 but the price is too high. I was wondering how good PC's are using PTLE 6.7. I currently own Sampletank and Korg Legacy which I have problems running on a MAC but with problems. I can only use 1 synth per session because PTLE will quick if I use anymore synths. How muc better will it be running this 2 synth on a PC? This will make my decision to wait for a G5 or purchase a PC which is more reasonable in price. Thanks.

PC's currently outperform macs (even the newest G5's) by a longshot in your area of concern. Take a look at the first post in the stickied thread "Best Desktops...".

Are you saing that a single Athlon 64 3700+ outpreforms a dual G52.5? Because its SEEMS un realistic.. but I can see how its possible. I'm in this same exact situation. What system do you run Cavell And whats your track count on the davec test? I can't find a dual G5 user taht has done the Davec test so i don't even know what they can pull out. I've seen people with athlon 64 3400+ systems that are pulling 32+15 tracks.. that seams pretty freakin' good compared to my eMac G4 that only gets liek 15 or so. Help plz.

In a recent real world usage, I got 32 audio tracks going, with 5 stereo Aux's, and 33 plug-ins, including Reason (which had 11 instruments and 10 FX going).

My system is a Pentium 4 2.6G, with 1 gig of Ram , running PT 6.4, on a 60 Gig system drive and 80 Gig recording drive. Additionally, I run Sampletank (both Versions 1 & 2) in conjuntion with Reason all the time.

I have a 3400+ athlon and im amazed how much i can run. My session look like TDM sessions with plugins.

I did the davec test i cant remember my exact score but it was a total of 215 plugins i believe. Those were stock protools plugs. I remember maxing out my track count and got quite far in the busses.

I remember seeing G5s were close in comparison but definatly not better. I only spent like 350 to up my computer to and athlon setup from a pentium 4. Motherboard, Processor wont run you much. There pretty reasonable.

For what you pay for a machintosh you could build a pc that would be faster then anything you have been on. You literally could buy top of the line PC stuff.

Check compatiblity with the motherboards though. Certain ones are better then others.

Here's a quote from the "Best Desktops" thread
Quote:
The new AMD processors have achieved over 100% better performance than Mac G4 and PIII systems and 50% better than Mac G5 and P4 systems. With rock solid stability, they easily push past the 32 track/160 effects limit. These are all top quality components proven to work with Digi001, MBox, 002, and 002R.
