Default C24 Compatibility after protools 11

OK when will the control 24 and C24 be no longer compatible with future protools?

My understanding is that these are just really big "mice" for Protools and do not have any understanding of the version of PT under it save for new functions in future PT updates and versions. I expect the C24 to be supported for the future. If it isn't, I will be dumping PT altogether since it was a significant investment for me beyond the software.

I'm not shure but the 32 and 64 bit protocol seems to me diffrend over the lan connection. but it might be interchanceble.

It's a good thought but I think bit-rates and communication protocols are different subjects. Current consumer LAN is CAT5e (information carrying capacity, not bit-rate) and the business guys are already using CAT6 (gigabit ethernet) so I think we are safe in our 32/64bit world... unless AVID does something dumb in their comm layer. There are always firmware updates to address this in future PT releases and we are going to rely on AVID testing to make sure this all works...

Basically ethernet is ethernet and backward compatible according to IEEE 802 standards. Each release of Protools should contain current Control24/C24 firmware.

I'm not allowed to provide links yet but you can Google CAT5e or CAT6 for the skinny on this stuff.

AVID has said the CONTROL 24 will not work in PT11 but the C24 will.
Its really a sad shame on AVIDS part that they wont let the CONTROL 24 work in 11 . A very money hungry shame !!!!

There is no reason the Control 24 cant work.
But it wont work because AVID wont write it into the program .
Im very pissed at this. IF IT ISNT POSSIBLE i would understand but it is and they wont allow it .
Unlike a interface that may or may not work with out being supported the CONTROL 24 needs to be written into the software for it to work.

If they really want to make more money why not sell me a HD11 Control 24 compatible for $500 more . Then they are literly making more profit in the next ten years like that from us . Than they would if they actually sold us a new C24 or even a newer C24 mkIII.
Revenue with out doing anything at all.
Under these circumstances I would happily pay it .

As far as I know Avid does not say it will not work, they just said that it will no longer be officially supported. Chances are quite big that it will work normally.... But if some functions would not work properly they don't need to fix it...

From AVID Support page:
===========================
Last Updated : February 24, 2012
Products Affected :

Final Sale and Support Dates for Control|24

While the Control|24 no longer available for sale, please note that customer support for the product will continue through the following date:

Product Control|24
Final Sale Date 12/31/2007
Final Customer Support Date 12/31/2012
===========================

I agree with DDDaniel. Don't worry as you have some time.
So we will not be getting Control|24 firmware updates with new PT releases after 12/31 but the existing firmware will/should continue to work with current functions.
Control|24 firmware will be "frozen" and any new Control Surface functions might not translate correctly. I expect this to also be true of the C|24 with time.
It just has a longer life but will ultimately go the way of all AVID hardware.
I have faith that AVID will continue their good trade-in policy. Let's hope they agree also!
