Fold-down plug-in on re-record tracks doesn't work. (-9060 error)
I'm revising my surround template, and I've noticed that if I use the Neyrinck Soundcode Stereo Downmixer on a 5.1 re-record track, that I can monitor through it- but I can't record. I get -9060 errors.
The only workaround I see is to use the Downmixers on their own set of auxes and then feed those to stereo re-record tracks. BTW, this is not a criticism of Neyrinck, but I think it's a shortcoming of Pro Tools. Any recommendations? Thanks in advance.

Now that I think about it, you can't record through an insert in Pro Tools anyway, so no wonder it doesn't work. Dumb question. Must get another coffee...

I put it on an aux and bus it to a record track. Works fine

Re: Fold-down plug-in on re-record tracks doesn't work. (-9060 error)
Thanks lexaudio.
Is there a better way to do this? I did a surround music album last year (not kidding) and multed the outputs of every track to my surround master bus and my stereo master bus. It was a very clean and easy way to do simultaneous surround and stereo. But in post, with the distribution of stems (FULL, DLG, M+E...) the only clean way I can get stereo stems is to fold-down the surround. Is there another way I haven't thought of? It occurred to me to group busses like DLG stereo/DLG surround, but that seemed like a headache.

I guess you need to explain why using a fold down plugin isn't what you want.
Just use LO/RO and let the plug in do the work. You can always mult the stem into individual aux's and turn make your own fold down |

Re: Fold-down plug-in on re-record tracks doesn't work. (-9060 error)
The inserts process the output of the track, not the input, so even if you didn't get the error you wouldn't be recording the processing, it would only affect the playback.

insert a Spanner in your 5.1 bus master (fold to taste)
now record onto a stereo rack which takes the L/R channels of the 5.1 bus. |
