Dock Jog Wheel Clip Gain reverts to scroll on Play?

Hope someone can help.
I have a softkey on the Dock that makes the jog wheel adjust clip gain, which is great.
But every time I hit play or spacebar on my keyboard the jog wheel reverts back to vertical scrolling the timeline.
Is there a way to make the behaviour of the jog wheel stick to being clip gain, rather than pressing the softkey over and over?
