Default When creating a template.ptxt file is it a stand alone self contained file?

Hi Folks,

So in the process of creating a template I create a session file with all the bits I want my template to be, then I go an save as template and said template.ptxt file is saved to the “Session Templates” folder. I’m left with a session file saved to my specific sessions folder. Is the .ptxt template file a self contained copy of the original session file(s) includding whatever added extras and options or does it need to refer back to it...... in other words can I now safely remove the original session and keep the .ptxt file intact.

Cheers

I'm 98% sure you can move the working session, but why really? I takes up next to no space and is useful if you want to revise your template. I have a couple that are on 10th revisions.

Yes the template is stored in a different place and wont disappear when you remove the session it was derived from.

If you mean does it contain the *audio*, then no. It's just a session file that will refer to the existing audio.

Not necessarily.

You can have the audio etc. located in the template folder if you choose to.

Just a suggestion; when you create a session template, save/close the source session(s) and then move all source sessions to a folder on an external drive. Why? Great question. They are not very big(as long as no audio is recorded) and they are handy in the future for updating, or if its got tons of tracks, it can also be handy for creating track presets. I also keep folders(on a backup drive) with copies of all my session templates and track presets, so I can retrieve them later on if anything happens to the "usual" location

Originally I didnt think of saving them to an external storage or location. But I can see the benefits of filing them away.
