Sorry I'm not on a PC but this way of doing it should be the same right? Try it!

No, the file locations you posted are for Pro Tools 10 or less.

For Pro Tools 11, Xpand2's plug-ins settings folder is located, by default, in :

- Mac : /Documents/Pro Tools/Plug-Ins Settings/
( fullpath => /Users/[Login]/Documents/Pro Tools/Plug-Ins Settings/ )
- Win7 : I suppose it is also inside \Documents\Pro Tools\Plug-ins Settings\
( I don't the default fullpath name )

This location can be changed (and found) in Pro Tools' Preferences (Tab "Operation", Section "User Library").

Yes, that is correct as I discovered last night. No wonder I had such a hard time finding it. Oddly, it isn't mentioned in the manual at all...at least not that I could find. So on Windows it is Users/UserName/Documents/ProTools/Plug-ins Settings/Xpand!2 The way I found it was to create a patch of my own, and then do a "Save As" within Xpand (the very top of the Xpand window is the pulldown menu) to see where that file was being put...and there it was!

What I did was rename this new patch bank "ChrisD Patches" and then put the entire folder in the "Xpand!2 folder, and then it shows up at the bottom inside Xpand's list of patches. I also have a folder named "My Patches". Both are there in addition to all the Xpand folders.

So that's what you have to do in Windows.

Question. How do you guys find the quality of the sounds of Xpand2 compared to other virtual romplers? I haven't had the chance to play around with the soft synths that are out today.

Well, when you have some 2500 or so sounds, which is what Xpand2 comes with, you're going to have some that are mediocre and others that just great, and that is true with Xpand2 as well. There are certainly a number of really nice sounds to work with in several categories, and because you can layer up to 4 at once, you can get some nice rich, thick sounding pads. And you do have some good basic editing features (filters, envelopes, resonance mainly) and basic arps and fx. Its nice too, that you can create you own sounds with it and save them as patches for future use. As ROMplers go, this is definitely one of the better ones in my opinion.

If you had to compare it to all the other 30 VI's that you own, how would rate it in terms of quality? Seeing that you own Omnishpere, Nexus2 etc.

I honestly have only used Xpand2, so I'm not sure if I'm missing out on anything.

I reccomend trying out Nexus2 and some of the expansions. It's head and shoulders above Xpand2! in my opinion.

A couple of other VI's to try out is Sylenth1 and Zebra/Diva.

I don't think its a fair comparison. Xpand2 is a freebie that comes with PT. The question was are the sounds good. Some definitely are. I wouldn't try to compare it with something you'd buy extra, like Nexus2 or Dune2 or Sylenth, etc. Like ANY VI, if it has the sound you want for your mix...use it!

I'm afraid I didn't keep the old presets I made, but I have made new/updated ones available at http://dillner.net/protools/Xpand!2.zip

Maby RussUK has the old ones I made somewhere on his server?
