Default Regex in 2022.12 VERY Broken

What the hell AVID!

Something is very wrong with the Regex in 2022.12, all my presets for renaming stems and midi from arrangers are dead in the water and even just trying to do it on the fly doesn't work.

searching for a string is now totally not accurate to the exact string

this regex to remove all extra spaces in one shot is totally broken

^\s|\s+(?!\S)|

Did they change the delimiter? Is it just... broken?

Having similar issues. I wonder how many people are really using regex in ProTools.

Ha! I would venture not many - I've been using PT since forever and regex off and on over the years, and I never even knew PT supported regex - just looked in the manual and lo and behold there's a whole section on it! Thanks for pointing it out! Now I wanna incorporate it into my workflow, but...if it's broken I guess I won't bother.

Never heard of it. Interesting.

i'm honestly about to roll back a version because I use it so often (ingesting stems from other writers and trying to conform them without a working batch track rename is... tedious).

It's honestly super handy, if you learn it well enough you can make a renaming task that would take many moves happen at once.

I urge you to submit a support case, precisely because not a lot of people are using Regex. I submitted mine and they couldn't reproduce it yet, they've requested that I send them my ptx file which I'll do when I get back to town next week.

I don't think your Regex should have that trailing Pipe character. It's suffering from an infinite match loop. Try
Code:
^\s|\s+(?!\S)
I've tested some of my saved Regex patterns and they have been working for me in 2022.12. It's possible AVID strengthened their Regex pattern engine rather than broke it. Test your Regex patterns here and make sure they work.

Some of what I use is still working, but mainly I'm upset about case conversion.

Find: (\w)
Replace: \L$1

It doesn't work in the regex tester you linked, but I have no clue why.

It seems like there's different types of regex, and I don't know which one PT is using.

I will follow up by saying my regex still works in the tester linked in the PT reference guide...

It seems Pro Tools uses either the Javascript/ECMAscript or Python compatible version of Reg Expressions

Switch that site's Regex engine over to javascript/ECMAscript and it won't work. C++ is what I'm going to assume PT is written in, and that language uses the ECMAScript regex engine.
