Mix is great. Agree with the complimentary remarks made. Vocals need to be fuller in the chorus, less mumbling in the verse, and as you advised for the other fellows drums, in this track your vocals need much the same work, add spark and energy to your delivery! Keep working at it, because your close.

Hey Kickin',

Like I said earlier, your music absolutely ROCKS! Awesome riffs, great mix, superb arranging, but on the vocals, they're a little too dry for the style of music in my opinion. I disected your song bar by bar and its amazing! Excellent job! My only question is: where did you get your drum and beat loops from? I like them alot. Just curious....Email me cause I may forget to recheck this thread. Thanks in advance for any info.

Kickin,

Great Job!!!

I have a few questions for you if ya don't mind.

Are using the Digi Converters? or did you invest in something better.
I've been so unhappy with the way my instuments sound through the 001. I'm wondering if it's something I'M doing wrong or do I need to make the investment in the apogee or one of the other AD/DA converters.

My other question for you is about MP3's.
The ones you have posted at MP3.com. Did you bounce those directly from the your digi session or did you do a mastering session or final mixdown to CD or DAT then rip them to MP3?

Again, Its great to hear what other people are doing w/ their 001's. And Kickin, you rock! But I'm very unhappy with the quality of sound I'm getting in my humble yet getting very expensive home studio.

Keep it up and thanks for the insparation!

Thanks for the comments guys.

OneZero, yes, i"m just using the 001 converters, and I'm really happy with them. I don't think you need anything better unless you really start nitpicking and have a good room, a good set of monitors and great microphones. I still use a SM58!

Anyhow, what kind of instruments are you unhappy with? Acoustic? Electric? It might be the choice of mics.....tell us more and I'm sure myself or other people here can help you. You should be able to get something really really good with the 001 alone.

I don't use PTLE, I use Logic Audio. I bounce my mix to disk and then use the energizer to master the level of my track, but that's about it for mastering.

Then I used iTunes to convert the file into a mp3 file. That's it!

Hi Kickin,

Thanks for the response, and I'm glad to hear your using the 001 converters. I really am not in the position to upgrade.

I am trying to get the most basic clean sound out of my set up.
I am currently plugging all my instruments (Electric Guitar, Bass and Drum Machine) through my Mackie VLZ 8 channel mixer and do an EQ there and maybe add some reverb with some cheap outboard gear I have. Through the mixer it doesn't sound bad, but when I route it through the digi, it sounds about 60% worse.
Do you think I would get a better sound out of a miked amp, before the Mackie preamps?
I definatly want to get the POD, and am realizing now, how much a good guitar pre-amp would help.

One more question regarding the MP3's,
What is the file type you bring into iTunes? .WAV? .AIFF? Stereo? Mono?

Again, thanks alot Kickin and keep up the great tunes.

Hmmm, Digi should sound the same that the mixer, or so close you shouldn't notice a difference anyway. So you must be doing something wrong. When you say it sounds worse, does it sound distorted? Does it has more noise? How is your rig cabled? (what mixer outs into what Digi in, what digi outs into what mixer/monitor in.....)

This problem aside, a guitar preamp is a great thing to have and the POD is probably the best one around right now. If $$$ is an issue for you try ebay.com, you could grab a used POD 1.0 for about $200.

Thanks Kickin,

My rig is pretty basic, I run each instrument in to the mixer and from the main outs into the channel 3 of the digi. The sound definaltly has less sparkle to it. Kind of dull and flat. Not distorted. Maybe my problem lays with in my cables. I'll try replacing them and see if that makes any difference.

Thanks for all your time and help.

You are probably running your instruments onto a stereo mix and then taking only half of that mix to your digi....try cabling both outputs of your mixer to inputs 3and4 of Digi and that should already be much better.
