Default Multi Purpose Mac

Is anyone using the "productivity software" on the same Mac as their audio apps? I'm talking about iWork, iLife, that king of thing. Do they "get in the way" of your audio work?

I want to get a MacBook Pro with iWork because of "KeyNote" and "Pages" for my teaching, and use the same MBP for "mobile studio" stuff.

Any comments/experiences?

Thanx!

As in a human distraction or a software conflict?

If it's the latter, then that's why we got Macs, isn't it?

I guess as a software conflict, the way some people say BootCamp causes problems for them.

the old rule of thumb used to be never put *any* non music/audio apps on the Mac that you make a living with. and there's good reason that old rules of thumb have become old rules of thumb.
but these days, I think it's more and more common to see additional apps being used on "the mothership". I do a bit of movie stuff (iMovie, iDVD) on mine as it's got the horsepower (proc. speed, RAM, big fast drives, etc.) that I need for movies. just be *very* careful because tossing that seemingly harmless little app or demo can crap up an otherwise rock-solid DAW.

I do everything on my Dual 2.5 G5, and I mean EVERYTHING. All my PT work (which also requires Word and Excel for reading cue sheets), as well as web design (Photoshop & BBEdit), iMovie/iDVD capturing, editing & burning, iTunes and DVD ripping, iPhoto, iChat, Email, Web surfing, Finances, FTP'ing, and lots and lots of firewire hard drives etc. I sometimes have a mp4 video compressing in the background while I'm editing for TLC in PT at the same time, and surfing the web and doing emails during Bounces... all running smoothly, no problems at all.

Gotta love Macs!

LapTop or DeskTop? I'm looking at the MacBook Pro.

I have a dual 1.6gh desktop g4 and a 1.25gh powerbook. both PPC, both fairly old. I do all kinds of things with them. ProTools, web, mail, word, excel, imovie etc etc

When I'm doing heavy mixing or recording, PT is the only open app. I've never had any conflicts with any other software messing with PT. The only thing I've ever had to keep an eye on is OSX updates and PT compatibility.

I'd image you'd be plenty fine doing all kinds of things on a new MacBook Pro.
