These are the numbers I get with a SanDisk Ultra II 960GB SSD attached to the Sonnet USB-C card.

A new, non-pro, iMac Retina outperforms a 2009 Mac Pro in both single-core and multi-core performance benchmarks. I'm not sure that it makes sense to buy a nearly decade-old computer, however great it was in its day:

I'd caution that Apple hasn't updated the non-pro iMac in nearly a year, so they are probably close to updating it again. I expect a new non-pro iMac to be released by the end of the year.

Just ran a GB on my 2009 MacPro and I get a single core score of 2670 and a multicore of 30807. So while the iMac non pro has a higher single core performance this decade old computer still smokes it with multi core performance. Well - obviously, since it has 8 more cores than the iMac (which I assume is a quad core?).

I’m running PT 2018.4 HDX on a 2010 MacPro 12 core. See sig for specs. It runs great. The only downside is no Thunderbolt but usb 3 seems to be gaining much better traction than Thunderbolt ever did.

Hi

Do you have any issues with CPU spikes causing AAE -9171 Halts with your system? Or do you never use native VIs or Plugins?

No issues with CPU spikes or AAE -9171.

I use Waves plug-ins quite extensively and those are all Native now.

I don't often use VIs. Mostly mixing and mastering on this rig.

Yeah, as Meads mentioned - very few people are still running the stock Apple configurations for 2009 - 2012 cMPs. I've seen those old machines go for as little as $350USD in dual CPU configurations. It is quite possible to have a machine that benchmarks between 20,000 and 31,000 for less than a $1000USD. Newer computers obviously have a bunch of upsides, but for shear bang for buck those old cMP's are still very much outshining a whole range of Apple's newer models.

Here is an old, upgraded 2009 Mac Pro for example.

Yeah, my upgraded processor 2010 Mac Pro has Geekbench 4 Multi-core scores in the same range as top of the line 2018 MBP's and 2013 Trash Can's.

http://browser.geekbench.com/v4/cpu/7575004

Note: The 2009 Geekbench 3 scores posted above read a bit higher than Geekbench 4 scores.
