Digi Expansion Pack Advice Needed Please..

Hi Everyone,

Hope all is well with everyone and you're all making some great music!

Anyway, just trying to get back to some recording and mixing after unfortunately, too long of a hiatus.

I see the great special on Digi's Expansion Pack and needed some of your advice.

Basically I'm just importing midi files into Pro Tools, then I recording my acoustic single track and mix. ( I'm a simple user)

At present I have Velvet & Structure Free. (I got Velvet as a promotion through M-Audio)

I was considering the expansion pack mainly for the full blown Structure, as well as Strike.

I really don't have the need for Transfuser or Hybrid for what I do.

I'm not sure what would be best....

Is the full blown Structure really good with lots of sounds ?

and.... is Strike comparable to, or better that some of the other drum synths?

Or should I just get a drum synth like ....Addictive Drums and keep on using Structure Free?

Whatever you decide, you should wait a few more weeks for Digi to announce what they're doing regarding upgrade paths for those who already own one or more of the virtual instruments. Nobody knows yet, but it may end up being that it will be a similar price (or not much more) to upgrade to the whole collection.

No official word yet, but I would wait.

I also forgot to mention that I'm still using version 7.4.2.... and will be staying with it. (I don't like the new GUI in ver 8)

Do you think they'll lower the price of the Expansion Pack even more due to newer stuff?

Nobody uses Structure and/or could tell me if it is a good synth with a lot of content with great sound?

First off Structure isn't a synth, it's a sampler.
Yes it's good, and it comes with a lot of useful sounds.
There are also many free sample collections available at the Air User Blog site

Sorry... but I don't know the difference between a Synth and a Sampler.

Can I still import and play midi file tracks and assign different instruments to different tracks using the Structure Sampler?

Synth - Simply... allows you to "synthesize" sound. Meaning, you create raw sounds from scratch by adjusting wavelengths, tones, modulation and other aspects of the audio you are trying to create.

Sampler - For sampling existing sounds. You would import a sound and assign it to a MIDI note, and be able to manipulate it from there.

If I understand what you are saying... then yes. Structure is for importing existing sounds and playing them... ie "Sampling" them.

Not for the foreseeable future. PTIEP slashed half the cost from the original AIR Virtual Instrument Box Set which in turn slashed half the cost from buying AIR Virtual Instrument individually. PTIEP is current and at a great price for new users. Personally I'd hold out for the PTIEP pricing matrix.
