Bottom Mic for Toms
Is there any gain in the tone of recording toms if you used a bottom mic like in recording the snare drum?

Re: Bottom Mic for Toms
We did this in audio engineering school.. It was a way to get some low thud in the mix, as the top mic will tend to have more percussive frequencies (attack).
As you probably know, be sure to flip the phase on the bottom mic (as with snare, too) - or do it later in the software. Experiment a little.. I recorded drums recently and wished I had done this (need more inputs/mics!). ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ P.S. - I'm talking about using BOTH top and bottom mics, and blending them together.preferably on mixdown. |

Re: Bottom Mic for Toms
Definitely worth the effort..
I used MD421's on the top skins and 57's underneath recently with great results |
