Play function not working

Hey folks. On one of my sessions, the play function doesn't work. I try to record and playback immediately stops and creates a clip. No matter how many times I click play after record it does the same. Also when trying to click play without recording, playback immediately stops without playing. Any ideas?

This only does this on one particular session, playback works fine in the rest. This particular session that doesn't work is my record template so you could imagine I need this one to work. (I've created a backup, I just want to know how to fix this in case it happens again)

I have plenty sessions created off this template and I (used to) use it regularly. I only have a scarlett 2i2 plugged in...

Folks typically cannot guess what will fix your problem, you need to step through troubleshooting stuff.

Simplest newbie style error would be you have a timeline selection made. Easy to happen with an accidental mouse click. And it's impossible to guess how much experience you have with Pro Tools.Make sure you click on the timeline to clear any selections, however small/hard to see.

Do you see any error message? What shows up on UI exactly? Any flashing transport buttons?

So suspect corrupted session/template?

Try a Save Session In or just try rebuilding the template from scratch. Does that work?

Not a lot of information provided. Computer? Exact Pro Tools version? Is the computer fully optimized? What standard troubleshooting you have tried etc. Start by reading "Help us Help You" up the top of every DUC web page.

All of a sudden this file works out of the blue. Let me just answer these questions so if I need some help later for another problem I can show I don't just ghost topics.

There was never any timeline selection made.

There was no error message.

The record button flashed when the track was armed, when play was clicked, immediately stop flashed, a clip was created then every transport button went back to normal.

This is a dell i5 running windows 10 version 21H2. I was running Pro Tools 2020.9 just upgraded to Pro Tools Studio 2022.9. The problem persisted on both versions. The computer is optimized. I tried restarting, (Pro Tools and the computer), I deleted a supposed corrupted file (ProTools.exe-a bunch of numbers and letters.pf), I've deleted tracks, audio files etc. All of these things did nothing immediately to help the issue. Today I logged on and tried again and it worked.

Hmm, this happens to me every so often(flashing Play button with no playback) and re-starting the session usually fixes it(sometimes I have to re-start PT instead).
