OMG - what are you trying to start here? Let me ask you to clarify this question. Do you mean materially, emotionally, spiritually, relationships . . .

Freedom from angst and worry is a good start, because the human mind generally wants to be happy when left to its own devices. All you need is peace of mind. Anthropologists tell us that as long as a human being is warm and well-fed he is happy.

I'll never forget back when I was single and reading a computer dating site, this young lady said, "Hi, I'm single and 30 years old, I live in trailor park with my two kids, I have to tell you upfront that I have herpes, and I'm currently on unemployment because I just lost my job. But when I look back over my life I would not have changed a single thing."

hmmm... many times people will be happy no matter what life hands them.

One thing that makes people unhappy is change. Most people will stay in a situation even if it is less than ideal because the fear of incertainly is greater than the possibility of better results. Most people never make changes in their careers, etc unless they are forced to.

Lovely and detailed answer, that also making me feel a bit foolish for asking it...
Just guess a lonely, mid life crisis moment hit me and wanted to "frame a picture" so to speak.
I'm married, two boys who have almost grown out of home...
I love and live for music and audio on a higher level. Business has been a downward spiral for me over the last few years. Yet, I'm only happy when surrounded with it !
So for me is staying dedicated to it, no matter what bitter curves life will throw at me...

Wow... deep thread.

For me, being alive is good life. There are some things I am striving for, and wish to happen (paid to make music, good relationship) but I can't say that I am unhappy because I don't have them.

When my 11 year old daughter looks at me and says, "I love you dad, you're the greatest."
THAT'S good life.

As far as creating music is concerned, I had wild fantasies as a young person about having the computer do all of the things that it can actually do today, so all my fantasies have all come true. (well, musical creation ones, anyway ) It truly still amazes me what I can do now.

Someone once gave me a philosophy that has stuck with me: happiness is a choice. It was the greatest revelation of my life.

I also look back on some of the hard times of my life like it was a movie: at least I can't say it was boring and I have definitely been entertained.

Also, with shame I must admit, I'm not a religious person. Although I do have one picture, where I can see myself being baptized, as a tiny lad. Whatever happened ?? I don't have an answer...
I had this simple saying (in my limited English) "you are the captain of your own ship".. , but I guess to really see how deep the water is, one had to be born to actually sense it.
Challenges and ways to improve, move forward are my driving forces.
Feeling blessed, that my wife is (however upsetting it must be to her) fully supporting even after 20 some years, to my dreams. Kinda stupid to call it dreams, though at my age...

Let's say life was better.Got another 2 1/2 inches of rain so my basement is now really wet.No place for the water to go.

I spend most of my weekends doing the chores I neglect during the week.
