Playback issues w/ Steinberg UR22C

Hi all,

Longtime PT / Mac user who hasn’t posted in years. I’m helping a friend who is not a native English speaker install and operate Pro Tools 12.5.0 on a Surface Book 3 running Windows 11. The I/O is Steinberg UR22C.

I have installed the proper drivers. We are able to hear audio through the microphone connected to the I/O, and can record said audio. But it’s not letting us hear the audio on playback in PT, for reasons I can’t fathom.

Interestingly, if we bounce the audio down and play it from the desktop, we can hear it. I’ve followed the Steinberg instructions but I’m not a PC user, so I lack full comprehension of PC audio routing.

It’s weird to feel this dumb as a user since 2000. Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

How are you trying to listen? Monitors or headphones plugged into the interface? Normally on Windows you would not be trying to use the speakers in the Surface. One optimization is to use the onboard soundcard for Windows sounds/audio and the interface only for Pro Tools.

Thanks for the reply. I should have specified that we are monitoring with headphones into the UR22. Which is why it was odd to me that we could hear audio from a bounced file on headphones through I/O, but not PT playback.
