Default OT: Your Thoughts on Kick Drum Mics

We just got in a bunch of new mics, including some pretty expensive ones (Blue bottle, Royer 121, several Neumans, etc).

One of them wasn't so expensive: the Sennheiser e902.

In the past, I've used the AKG D112 with an EV RE20 and have had good results. I'm eager to hear what it sounds like, but I won't be recording music for the next three weeks (because of other projects).

Anyway, I'm interested to hear about what you've worked with and liked. And if you used the e902, what did you think of it?

FET47 is another classic kick mic. Sennheiser 421 can sound good on kick too.

For inside kick, I like shure beta 52, or akg D12. I Swap between the 2 depending..... I have a Senheiser e902, but find it lets some floppy sub through too easy. Sits on the shelf.. each to their own though.. Never tried an ev re20. Always been curious though...

Outside, my favourite is a fet 47, but i dont own one, so only use on special occasions. Someone lent me their sounddelux fet 47, and i loved it. i also Like an u87 outside, or a AT 4050.

Often a 57 on the beta side gets me going too!!

Cheers
Dave

I use the D112 with a 47 or a C12 as an outside mic usually. However, if you end up with a duller sounding drum the Audix D6 does a pretty good job of livening things up a bit.

Audix D6 FTW. Never had a kick I couldn't tune up to sound right with it.
