Default Convert Stereo To Mono

I think I did a bad thing.

I am trying to build a choir effect and have edited (copy and pasted) various vocal parts from one chorus to another among various takes of several singers. I then submixed those, unfortunately and unnecessarily, to stereo and I will be running out of trac capacity. I've been working with a guide submix of the instruments and will eventually have to import the (many) vocal parts (maybe 50 or more tracs) back into my original session. However, there is a limit (I think) on my LE 7.4.2 to the amount of tracs I can have in the Audio Files list even if I make them inactive in the session. Is that so?

I have successfully converted a stereo trac, in the session, to a mono trac. However, if I then delete the stereo trac in the session, it seems to remain in the Audio File and there does not appear to be a new audio file of the newly created mono trac in the Audio File list.

I'm a blues singer and just learning to work with protools. I just know I blew this and I wonder if there is any way to salvage this escapade? I'm so flying by the seat of my pants, that I did not even work in 24 bit and I'm not certain of a way to import my vocal mono vocal Audio files from one session to the original instrumental session. Any suggestions will be so much appreciated.

Yes!
Quinn

Default Re: Convert Stereo To Mono

Hi,

when you did a submix print of the vocal comp in stereo, pro tools created 2 files on your hard drive, a left and right (both are mono). You can just select the track, go to the track dialog in the menu bar and select split into mono.
What pro tools does is to take those two files created previously and put them on 2 seperate mono tracks without creating new files.

You can then just delete the original stereo track and one of the mono track and you´ve saved yourself 1 playback voice.

There is no limit to how many audio files you can have in the audio files list, only how many active tracks you are running at each time.

Hope this helps.
