Default WOOHOO!! Sweeeeet, check THIS out, Mac Mini & HDX

I just got the X-Mac Mini Server from Sonnet and fired up my HDX rig running on a Mac Mini.

It SCREAMS. and I now have my whole HDX rig in a single rack space, minus the HDIO of course. I ran it through some tests recording Max tracks at 48 and 96k, for over an hour each with plugins loaded up to the point that the DSP chips were maxed. No issues.

Thunderbolt is the sh-t. Just amazing.

Nice!

I'm waiting for Apple to update the Mac Mini with these new processors and then it'll be the Magma 3 slot box for me. HD Native and 2 UAD cards.

Do you need the UAD cards? I mean I think they said they will be coming out with AAX plugins, right?

No, they're not. They are the AAX versions of the control and GUI only, the processing still happens on their cards.

I love HD Native. Don't miss TDM at all. It does require a little bit of rethinking but I am VERY happy with my decision NOT to buy HDX.

That looks SWEET

We have HDNative and loving that setup. The producers we work with in another studio have HDX and of course that it a Hot Ticket but with the right tweeking the HD Native works great and we won't go HDX until there are enough reasons for the jump.

BTW what is that setup called on the photos and what will be the difference between the "old" mini and the new mini?

Thanks guys
Chris

I'm waiting for reasonably priced 48GB computers as that would allow me to record a whole three hour gig in memory. Until that happens, I'm going to record with my HD3 but I bet it's coming soon.
