Default Video issue with Allenstein Machine

Recently constructed a variant of the The Allenstein Machine; working fine with my existing ( old ) lcd display with analog connection; purchased a new monitor last week, a 19" BenQ FP91G+, and am having problems if the DVI is used. The display will intermittently go blank ( monitor indicates no input signal ) when a firewire device is unplugged ( ie audio interface ), and sometimes reboot. I programmed hotkeys to switch displays, and if I do this after the blank display, it will come on for about 1 second, and then blank again. I have updated MB bios, all drivers. Interstingly enough, the driver on the Diamond website is older than the version on the installation CD??

Any suggestions are most appreciated, don't know where to start on this.

Thanks in advance,
Mike

Mike,
I'd start by hooking your computer up to another screen via DVI. See if you can borrow a friend's monitor. Otherwise return the one you got and try another one. If the second one doesn't work then you know it is the video card.

Allen

Thanks so much for the response. I borrowed another monitor, same result whan dvi connection is used. I have attempted to contact Diamond twice, with absolutely no response at this point, 1 week and counting. I have ordered a different video card ( MSI RX800-TD256E 256MB ), will try it out. I am somewhat irritated that I can't reach Diamond, and to date they have provided no support whatsoever.

Regards,
Mike

Good for you to get another video card. Look at it this way, if it were a Mac (outside of Apple Support time frame), you would be paying for an entire motherboard replacement which runs easily in the 900.00 range now for the iMac G5s. This is the best part of the PC world, the cost of replacement is so cheap.
Let us know how it goes.

The new video card did the trick, works great ( MSI RX800-TD256E ). It's a shame that I threw away $125 on the Diamond RADEON GX700PCIE256SB card, just bought it on Jan 2, and can get no response or support out of Diamond whatsoever. I will never own another of their products, personally.

Thanks for the help Allen, you're great!!

Regards,
Mike

Mike ,
Who did you buy the Diamond video card from? Newegg has been great at returning defective products for me.

Purchased the card from newegg; the problem is that the issue was not discovered until I purchased the new monitor with DVI, was previously using analog, so didn't know the video card was broken. Couldn't get a refund since it was past 30 days, but they offered to replace the card, which is good customer service from newegg. So, I have a spare....Good news is the pc is working great now!
