Default 003R-Black Lion Signature Mod or Apogee Rosetta?

Any thoughts out there from people who have either??

I'm really craving better performance, so which would improve the most? My hunch is the Black Lion Signature Mod, but $1,250 for an upgrade of a 003R is a little hard to swallow.

Too bad you aren't in la, ca.
I'd let you try both and compare for yourself.

I can't speak for the BLM of the original hardware within your 003 console, but Apogee makes incredible converters that sound analog, provide incredible gain before distortion, excellent stereo imaging, etc. You'd be surprised just how many purchase MBox2's with a MiniDac or a Rosetta200. So don't feel so bad, that's an $1800 add-on to a $450 purchase I have sooooo many clients with 003 units and 002's with Rosetta800's. While I'm running ProToolsHD and another might be PTLE, with a Rosetta800 or Rosetta200--they are getting the same quality on input of that LE system as I have in my HD system.

Thumbs up Re: 003R-Black Lion Signature Mod or Apogee Rosetta?

I've never tried my 002r with Apogee, but I do have the Signature Series Mod.

It's cheaper to go with the mod., and you get way more upgrades in the unit than if you just went with Apogee.

I would email Nate at BLA and get some more info., he's super nice guy and very helpful.

The signature series mod. is nothing short of jaw dropping.

+++ for Black Lion mod. IMHO it sounds much better than the Apogee. If resale is important to you, the Apogee will retain more of it's value. If audio quality is more important, take the value loss and go with the BLA.

Hey Brad lyons", from what see from your site at sweetwater i would imagine it's your prerequisite to be able to know pro tools related hardware & software? ( PRE-MOD THAT IS)

Just another way to look at it. 003 with mod is 8 great channels (4 with pres and 4 to add your own). Then you can still expand via adat (a la Rosetta 800) and have 16 killer channels. If you get the Rosetta and no mod you'll have 8 great channels of conversion and the 8 so-so stock channels. So how many channels will you want from this system? Just a thought.
