002R, Rosetta 200 with Symphony cards
I'm about to take delivery on 2 Symphony cards so I can run PT9 with my Rosetta 200. I do a lot of guitar overdubs, and occasionally I'll ReAmp something or simply run it out to my pedalboard and back into the box. Will my semi-trusty old 002R play nice in this scenario?
Thanks, Jerry |

Re: 002R, Rosetta 200 with Symphony cards
I'm not sure how the 002 fits into this scenario. If you're using the Rosetta with the symphony cards, then the 002 won't fit in at all, because it won't work as an aggregate device. In other words, you can't use the inputs of the Rosetta via symphony card, while also using the 002 via firewire.
You can hook up the rosetta to the 002 to bypass the 002's conversion, but then you will be using the 002 as the interface, and won't be able to use the symphony cards while doing that. I'm also confused as to how you would use 2 symphony cards. |

Re: 002R, Rosetta 200 with Symphony cards
The Symphony 64 goes in a slot in my MacPro DQ 3.0, the X-Symphony card goes in the Rosetta.
Anyone have any thoughts on how to get one track out of, and back into, the box with this setup? Thanks much, |

You need a preamp in front of the Rosetta, regardless. Reamping should be simple. Take the analog line out of the Rosetta, to a reamping box of your choice, into your guitar rig, to the microphone, to the microphone preamp, back into the Rosetta's analog line in.

Re: 002R, Rosetta 200 with Symphony cards
The 002 has been spdif'd to a rosetta from day one, acting only as an interface, and it has been occasionally cantankerous even after a change in power harness years ago, but I've learned to live with it.. I use API and Neve preamps...The Rosetta only has XLR outputs which are connected to my Adams.
The 002 is easy enough to get to, so I suppose in the absence of a simpler solution I can wire it up and fire it up as needed. |

Re: 002R, Rosetta 200 with Symphony cards
One potential negative to using the 002R as the interface with the Rosetta is ADC. If the Rosetta is faster (round trip latency for DA/AD) than the 002R then you are going to have issues with H/W inserts with PT9. You can't subtract latency in the H/W Insert Delay setup; you can only add latency.
I've hit the above issue with my Apogee DA16x/AD16x feeding a 002 via optical. I'm assuming that the issue would be the same when feeding S/PDIF but I don't know for sure (and can't test that with my setup). The Apogee's are faster by 10 samples than the ADC computed for the 002, so a H/W insert (with ADC enabled) on the DA16x/AD16x end up arriving too early. I have to add an Time Adjuster, or shift the track by 10 samples to get things to line up (at 44.1). I'm thinking about a Symphony 64 card because of this (and for the added sample rates as I'm limited to 44.1 or 48kHz with the ADAT optical on the 002, and the ability to get more than 8x8 in/out). I'd like to keep the 002 control interface (faders and transport primarily) but I'm getting closer to dumping it altogether. As for how to get one track out of and then back into the Rosetta? Use a H/W insert. |

Re: 002R, Rosetta 200 with Symphony cards
The Rosetta 200 has XLR i/o and AES i/o. I'm using the XLRs to my powered monitors, perhaps I can get some AES cables made up to terminate in 1/4" plugs for getting out to an occassional pedal and back in. Question then is, where in the signal path are the AES connections?
