Default Techtools pro vs Norton Utilities

What is the best software to defrag., restore, repair directories, etc. for Protools users.

I think both work admirably. However, I do not suggest running either of them from your Start Up drive. I have had that cause nothing but problems.

The best way to run the programs is from a Bootable CD containing the application.

An advantage to Tech Tool Pro is that it will also test your RAM, VRAM, Video Card, and pretty much any other piece of hardware along with your Hard Drives, whereas Norton is simply a Hard Drive Utility.

My system drive crashed today. I tried Norton Utilities and it wouldn't even recognize that the drive existed. I purchased and downloaded "Disk Warior" and my drive is now fixed.

So maybe use Disk Warrior for hard disk recover and Ttechtool pro for diagnosis of everything else?

Actually all three have strengths and weaknesses.
DW is very good about repairing directory damage that DD sometimes misses. TTP is good but if you hack a system setting, it will give you an error saying a file is damaged. And Disk first aid is always a good starting point. backing up critical files should be a must.
