Default Windows 7 setup

Hi I am installing windows 7 on a new pc for a friend who is starting a recording studio. Here is his setup so far.

Intel Core i7 4770K 4x 3.50 GHz
Mainboard:1150 ASUS B85M-E
System Memory (RAM):16 GB RAM
SSD:128GB SanDisk SSD, SATA 6Gbs
Hard Disc (HDD):2000GB Seagate Barracuda 7200.14, SATA 6Gbs
Windows 7 64 bit
SSL MadiXtreme 64
Alpha-Link MADI-SX
Nucleus Desk
2 x Alpha Preamps 4ch
Pro tools 10

My question - Is the SSD 128 the best place to install pro tools. I was going to install windows 7 and pro tools on the SSD. where is the best place for the Audio folder. I know nothing about pro tools and was wondering could someone tell me the best way to setup windows 7 (partitions, storage if I need a faster HDD or will the SSD do).

That might help ^

but yes typically all your programs get installed on your SSD

and your secondary drive is where you save all your sessions to

and then your third Drive should be for all of your audio samples your VI content

A word of warning: The LGA 1150 Socket motherboards have been known to be troublesome with Pro Tools. The B85M-E motherboard is 1150 socket.

Better to go with tried and tested x79 Chipset & LGA 2011 socket, quad channel RAM, 6 core processor.

It's unfortunate more folks don't do the necessary research before buying/building computers to run Pro Tools. PT is finicky, which runs on some system components better than others.

I can't be specific off the top of my head about the problems others have had with the 1150 socket but they have been discussed here in the forum. Different Motherboard chipsets also have a huge impact on stability running PT.

There are lots of guys around here who have built their own Windows systems (including myself) and my recommendations are based on the components that they and I have used and reported back to be most stable with Pro Tools. There are other platforms but this is the latest proven best. Bare in mind this has been a process of success and failure by many over years of experimenting.

Since the computer has already been acquired it's going to be a matter of installing Windows, doing the recommended system optimizations and see what happens.

You show no vid card on your parts list which might mean your planning on using the onboard. Guarantee it will not work. Going to have to get something like a Nvidia GT 610-640 at bare minimum.
