Default Too many tracks causes some tracks to become inactive

I'm doing a project which requires stacking many vocals. I have approx 22 vocal tracks. After about the 15th or so, a bunch of previously recorded vocal tracks become inactive and won't play the audio.

This sucks because in addition to my vocal tracks, I have to mix them with the tracked out instrumental (at least another 8 tracks)

Now something tells me, if I have 22 vocal tracks I'm already doing something wrong. Basically there's main vocals and every harmony is double stacked. I could try re-arranging things to get all the vocals on a lesser number of tracks, but if that doesnt work, any other suggestions?

Use Rewire and have your tracks play in another software (Ableton or Reaper).
You could also get an Add-On (Music Production Toolkit or DV toolkit) and get a total of 48 tracks (mono or stereo - that's 48 voices as 48 mono tracks or 96 voices as 48 stereo tracks)...works like a charm.

You could also do a submix of your vocal tracks and then disable the original voices so you can open the rest of your music tracks. Solo the vocal tracks and Bounce to Disc, choose Bounce to track and they should show up in your session as a new stereo track.

I don't think the voices change whether stereo or not...you have 48 voices whether you choose to use them in stereo(2 voices per track) or mono(1 voice per track) is up to you...

That is technically incorrect.

The term "voices" refers to "channels of audio". A stereo track has two channels of audio, thus uses two "voices". If you have 48 stereo tracks, that's 96 voices. With some creativity, you could/can have up to 96 mono tracks ("voices") with the toolkit

It's all just semantics, really. The point being that the toolkit will remove the 32 "voice" limit of the basic LE version.

A quick "How To".

That should help some of you guys who want to break that 48 track limit.

...you should also make it common practice to submix the tracks that need to be submixed prior to mixing. An example would be to submix each harmony layer to a stereo stem etc. A three part harmony with 40 layers each would come out as three stereo stems all nicely organized. I use many layered tracks myself. Some passing over 1000 vocal tracks. If you were to ever give this to a mix engineer, he'd probably send it back and tell you to submix the standard stuff. It also makes for good session management so you're not pulling your hair out with thousands of tracks to deal with.

Hope that helps.

Thank you very much...I'm always willing to learn something new...especially something as beneficial as this...
