HD 8.04 CS2 or 8.1 CS2 ??? the more stable ?
Hi,
since upgrading to 8 and now up to 8.1 cs2, I'm getting more and more stability problems : quit, freeze, crash (screen of death) or losing the control of Pro Tools ( It plays until a force quit !) I'm on a HD2 on 2x2.26 Quad-Core from 2009 with 6 GB. 10.6.4 with a Decklink Extreme v7.9 and a fader Port. The problems are the worse when working with videos H264 ( always on a different drive) I trash PT prefs, repair permission and restart after every crash. (Only doubt would be still working with waves 6 ... but not as bad as this.) The machine is stable working with Logic, Live, FCP, After Effects ... Should I revert to 8.04 since I'm not using any new interface ? Kind regards to anyone with ideas Chris |

Same thing with 8.1cs2
I have 16Gig of Ram and with just a few RTAS instruments opened, after 1 or 2 hours working PT is writing that it's out of memory. And I almost never had that one with old PPC and 7.4 PT |

Re: HD 8.04 CS2 or 8.1 CS2 ??? the more stable ?
I would try 8.1cs1. I'm not having any problems, other than the funky midi timing that has existed for awhile now, with this version. Quite stable. The main thing that is being reported around here about cs2 is that people are getting assertion errors that they weren't getting with cs1.

I've had The memory problem today even without VI. Just a post Job ...
I'm upgrading waves to 7 just to be 100 % updated with everything ... Never could install sc1 because of the instalation error ( see forum posts about this.) It's been a while since PT got me into so much trouble ... |

The posts that you mention also supply a solution to this problem and it does work. Have you tried these suggestions?

8.0.4CS2 is most stable I've seen in a while(which doesn't say much). I'd be very very reluctant to use anything else.

Re: HD 8.04 CS2 or 8.1 CS2 ??? the more stable ?
I think the version you use should reflect who you are working with. 8.0.4 cs2 is the best version if you a interchanging sessions with that version or lower. After 8.1 the output routing has changed you should use that version or higher (8.1 cs2) for better sessions interchange between audio houses. Of course either version is compatible with anyother version, it's just easier to open a 8.1 session on a 8.1 pro tools rig.

8.1cs1 has been stable as a rock for me. If you use VI's then the stability goes a bit south. I solved that problem by using VE Pro. With that, things are nice and stable again although the midi timing is not so hot, but that's another thread.
