Hardware Settings - Saved Where?
Hi,
We need to be able to copy Pro Tools Hardware Settings to new Users on our Macs at our Uni - due to the way the build is imposed on us all new users get default Hardware Settings for the HD I/O attached to the system. Does anyone know where on a Mac the Hardware settings are saved? We've copied a number of Preference files from a working User to a New User but without success. Once we know which file it is we can create a script to copy it to the correct location on login... Saw this 2008 Post (don’t know if it’s still applicable):

Check out Snapshot (free!) to store images of your hardware settings. “Snap it on your phone, send it to your computer and save it in your session using the free Snapshot plug-in. You can also add notes to each instance …” https://non-lethal-applications.com/products/snapshot Snapshot currently supports macOS 10.9 or higher and Windows 10 https://www.pro-tools-expert.com/hom...gs-in-your-daw

Re: Hardware Settings - Saved Where?
Hi James,
The Hardware settings are visible in the I/O Setup window and can be changed at the top, but the I/O Settings .pio file doesn't save the chosen hardware inputs and outputs format. The Hardware Setup is also under the Setup menu and with PT Ultimate and HD hardware we can switch some inputs and outputs to be either analogue or digital. It's those settings that I want new Users on the Mac to have, rather than the default - everything analogue - which they are getting at the moment. Many thanks Jon |

Re: Hardware Settings - Saved Where?
In Windows, my Hardware Settings are located in My Documents.
Have you tried creating a new Hardware Setting, then “Save As”, call it Prodding and Poking, then use Finder + Show Hidden Files to find the location of Prodding and Poking, as well as all your other Hardware Settings? (Please excuse my lack of Mac knowledge! There are many Mac experts here who can help, if you still can't find it.)

Re: Hardware Settings - Saved Where?
Unfortunately, you can't manually 'save' a Hardware Setting. I/O settings you can and these are in Documents on a Mac. This is why I'm having trouble finding the system file that Pro Tools saves the info in. I was hoping that it was the Pro Tools Preference file, but that isn't the case.
Many thanks Jon |

Re: Hardware Settings - Saved Where?
These are my Mbox Pro Mixer Settings ... not what you asked for!
Realising my total ignorance of all-things Mac, I've emailed Pete Gates to ask for his help here. Pete's a Mac Guru - http://petegates.com/ Speaking politely, by comparison, I'm rated somewhere between a Drongo and a Galoot. Hope you get the help you need - good luck!

I think, but would need to check, it's stored in ~/Library/Preferences/Avid/DSIPrefs I'll double check when I get the chance - or just try it. Cheers, Pete |

Re: Hardware Settings - Saved Where?
Thank you, we'll give the DSIPrefs file a try and see if that one does what we need. Then it's scripting time to get it to copy when a student logs into the computer.
All the best Jon |
