Lightbulb Can someone please recomend me a stable and affordable interface

I am currently running Pro Tools 10.3.3 on a Windows 7 86x machine. I will be running Pro Tools 11 on a Windows 8 64x machine I have ready to go when it is released or if Avid updates Pro Tools 10 to run on Windows 8 with no errors before then I will start using that machine. So I need something that will work on both of these Machines (USB2/USB3).

I have been using a Tascam US-1800 since the first version of Pro Tools 9. I bought it because it had the most I/O for my price range at the time. The audio drivers for the interface constantly crash, there has not been a session where I haven't had to restart Pro Tools at least twice. I get a loud bubbling sound whenever i am monitoring audio from Pro Tools and I have to restart Pro Tools. I never get any Pro Tools specific errors so I'm pretty sure the problem lies with the audio drivers of the interface. Tascam have not updated these drivers since 01/06/2011 and I doubt they ever will.

Since using the interface I have come to the realization that the most I ever track at once is maybe a Condenser Microphone and an Electric Bass or Electric Guitar or even a Microphone and a Stereo Hardware Synthesizer or an AKAI MPC so I don't even need many inputs, so that is no longer my concern. I make Sample Based music and use mainly Virtual Instruments so I really just need a small interface which has audio drivers that are extremely stable and comes highly recommended which will see me through to be able to use on a Windows 8 64x Pro Tools 11 Machine. I was thinking about the latest MBOX 3 Pro as I am an audio student and have the chance to get it at a student price but I have read bad things about them to be honest (I know the MBOX 3 Pro is a FireWire Interface I was going to get a FireWire Card for my PC to use it).

Could everyone please offer there recommendations on something I can work with. Thank you in advance for reading the thread and for your time.

Also if anyone would like to share a story about using the US-1800 I would also be interested in reading if you have had similar issues or not.

You might consider posting a Sandra report on your current machine. I've been running HD10.3.3 on Windows 7 64 bit machine, with a Digi003 controller and its been very solid.

P7 has not been very good, at least for me. I don't recommend socket 1155 or 1156, despite some folks having success. Integrated graphics is also usually a deal breaker for Pro Tools. Mis-matched RAM is never a good idea either. I see your R: drive is 5900 rpm, so you should NOT be recording to it(its fine for backup storage). Your wireless adapter should be disabled when running Pro Tools(at least until you get PT working well, then try turning it back on to see if it hurts performance). Since you are running 32 bit Windows, I would pull the odd stick of RAM and 1 of the other sticks, leaving a matching pair in the same colored slots(you must have even numbers of matching RAM for dual channel operation). In short, the interface is likely not your problem, but the computer itself shows many issues. Sorry I don't have better news

Thank you for your reply. I am pretty sure Pro Tools is running fine here. It is definitely the audio drivers. I will borrow a friends focusrite interface for a weekend and run some tests to determine the problem. My point was to get recommendations about interfaces do you have any?

Borrowing your friends interface is a great plan. Let's be sure there are not other issues related to the system (as Albee noted above). The points he made earlier are very common causes for poor performance and should be taken out of the picture before you invest good money in something that may not solve all of your issues.
