Pt hd1. We need more power!!!
also UAD increased from 1Core to a QuadCore board!
Now I submit to you, this apogee plug-in test, in order to build an interesting thread. ------------------------------------------ MAXIMUM PERFORMANCE The processing power of the Mac Pro and the efficient design of the Symphony 64 PCIe audio driver work in concert to deliver unprecedented plug-in performance. HD1 PLUG IN TEST vs. MAC ------------------------------------------ you think it is time for AVID, wake up from hibernation? |

Re: Pt hd1. We need more power!!!
TDM v/s NATIVE isn't exactly about quantity, it's about quality. When you bought your HD1, were you informed of the amount of processing it would give you v/s that of the HD2 Accel or HD3 Accel? TDM processing, in most cases, out-performs that of native when it comes to fidelity, latency, and sonic character. I deal with large and I do mean LARGE projects where this matters. But if you do want more processing, just buy another card.

Re: Pt hd1. We need more power!!!
Check out the several threads on this forum pitting an 003 against a 192.
The 192 almost always comes out on top, even against a BLA mod. There's a reason why the high end facilities spend the big bucks.

RTAS vs TDM. We're not talking about A/D or D/A. |

You might not be, but he was...

Nevermind the fact that you can run both TDM and RTAS in HD. An HD3 Mac Pro will outperform an LE Mac Pro... it's not a matter of preference, it's simply fact. ADC isn't the only thing that separates HD from LE.

Re: Pt hd1. We need more power!!!
BradLyons:
When I went from Le to HD, I was surprised to hear that some plugins suddenly started distorting. It turns out that TDM has lower headroom than RTAS, and when PT automatically switched the RTAS plugs to TDM many plugs started distorting. Granted I should watch my levels, but still... You expect pro-audio to handle audio better, not worse.

No mention of A/D or D/A. I'm not talking about aggregate amount of processing either, simply the quality of an RTAS plug vs a TDM plug. Which of course if coded properly will be equal as pointed out by plugin designers themselves. |
