unable to trash preferences
Windows 10 - I have tried recommended procedure :
[Windows] R / %appdata% click OK / opens list of apps click "Look for another app on this PC" - opens file explorer / select Avid folder to open it / (directory path is C:\Program files\Avid\ ) select Pro Tools folder, left click, select "delete"; processor monitor dialog opens and it begins deleting files and folders and then I get an error dialogue that says "cannot delete because a file or folder in it is open in another program" It does this even if attempting to delete the folder is the first thing I do after starting the PC. |

Re: unable to trash preferences
That is most definitely not the path to the Pro Tools prefs folder. You may need to reinstall Peo Tools if you’ve been trying to delete that folder.
Follow the instructions located here. https://www.sweetwater.com/sweetcare...erences-for-PC

Re: unable to trash preferences
That link is where I got the method I was following. What is the correct path to the Pro Tools preferences I need to delete?
PS I just ran Pro Tools, it seems to still be working correctly. |

Quote:
You have to show hidden files first. The path is something like c:/Users/*you*/AppData/Roaming/Avid/Pro Tools

Re: unable to trash preferences
There is better documentation of what to do provided by Avid in the usual place.... the Optimization and Troubleshooting guides. But not so easy to find.
A mass of information: https://avid.secure.force.com/pkb/ar...oting/en367983 What you want is in here: https://avid.secure.force.com/pkb/ar...ide#delete_pro in the section titled "Delete Pro Tools Databases and Preferences". And you should have read that guide as part of optimizing your system properly, if not then have a read. |

Re: unable to trash preferences
Trashing prefs is significantly easier if you use guitardom's handy utility available here:
https://www.pro-tools-pc.com/ scroll down to the link for Trasher 3 and make a donation. Its worth every cent

Re: unable to trash preferences
Thanks Darryl Ramm - apparently the recommended [Windows]R > %appdata% > was directing me to the wrong path; thanks for nothing Sweetwater! I am going to add the correct folder to my quick access list.
Thanks a bunch! |

Re: unable to trash preferences
Great you got that sorted out. Yes I cringed when I saw how Sweetwater was using that variable. I'd also agree with Dave, that getting the Trasher app is a good idea.
