Default How to assign Plugin parameters to a midi controller encoder/knob?

Hi,
I'm doing trial of Pro Tools and the main reason for my interest to switch is DAW stability. and OMG am i impressed. i can leave pro tools running for days and days and it never gets more latent/clipping etc it stays just as stable as when i opened it.

there is one feature however in nearly all other DAWs that is missing in pro tools and this is holding me back - the ability to assign virtually any plugin/track parameter to a midi controller encoder. in Logic and Ableton one can assign anything from an obscure plugin setting to something simple such as the track pan control to any midi input. Abletons method is fairly simple, just click MIDI and then touch the param and then move the knob - it just works. where Logics impementation "usually works" but also allows the user to tweak the configuration for toggles, rotary knobs, scales input, relative vs absolute encoding, binary encoding eg 2's 1's compliment, and even set a multiplier such as -1 to invert the encoded signal.

in pro tools the only thing that supports "MIDI Learn" is virtual instrument parameters.

ive tried researching this and unless im missing something (please let me know if i am) there is no way to assign (right click > midi learn) a audio plugin parameter to a midi controller knob/switch/fader etc.

why is this missing? is there a way to do it?
ive even tried setting up the Avid Control ios app and these parameters are made available after setting up the euphonix integration, but i cant see anyway to simply assign them to a controller.

You can MIDI map some plugins, if they support it. For example, I can MIDI learn FF ProQ. When you do that, you need to create a MIDI channel and have that rec enabled.

The reason why it’s mot so simple is because AVID have Eucon which is what their controllers use to communicate with PT. It’s actually far better than MIDI, but of course requires the purchase of their hardware.

thats interesting. downloaded fabfilter plug and it works (kind of) does map but lacks the fine tuning logic offers nor the "just works" auto setup in ableton. (resulting in the knob working but just jumping from 0 to 127 rather than moving fluidly through the range of parameter values).

i have tried the eucon via the Avid Control ios app, and it works but is more touchscreen where i want to just use knobs. i see theres an app called soundflow that might extend mapping eucon to other controllers, but even if the license fees were no issue i dont like the idea of having to use cpu (or depend on indefinite support) from a 3rd party tool. i just find it hard to believe this isnt a deal breaker for some folks (or perhaps it explains why logic has such a loyal semi-pro/hobbyist user base)

still needing a solution for any plugin tho. requiring support for this severely limits users. even PTs builtin plugs seem to lack any midi.
