Default Pro Tools 8LE DVDs

Hello everyone,

I know I'm behind the times a bit but this the most economical way for me to do it. I installed and extra hard drive on my Mac Pro so I can keep on running Mac OS 10.6 in order to keep on using Pro Tools 8 LE and also have my main drive running Mac OS 10.9. (I can't afford the Pro Tools upgrade) So when I go to install Pro Tools with the DVD, the computer spits it out and the same with the Loops DVD. Of course there's something wrong with the DVDs, but both DVDs? It's doing the same on my Mac Book Pro and on an old iBook.

I'm so frustrated. I' don't know what to do. Help!! Thanks

Go to your Avid account and download the latest version of PT8LE.

If you originally received Pro Tools LE 8 installers on disks rather than a download, you probably don't have the Pro Tools LE 8 downloads in your avid account. But as Tom suggests, look in your account to see if you do have those downloads.

This does seem odd that neither DVD would mount. Although it might be possible that the ibook has a CD drive rather than a combo CD/DVD drive if it is an early clamshell model.

Try this on your Mac Pro:
  1. Open your System Preferences, and click on "CDs & DVDs".
  2. Temporarily change the prefs to "ignore" rather than a specific application.
  3. Insert the DVD, and if it mounts, great.

If not, then Open: Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility and see if you can mount the disk image using that.

Hi Bruce, thanks for the quick response. I only have the DVD installers. I don't have download links. I tried what you suggested but it's not working. All it does is trying to spin like three short times and then the computer spits it out. And even stranger is also doing it wit the loops DVD. Do I have any other option?

Everybody should remember that the PT8 version disks were very much regarded as faulty.

I would say most didn't work out of the package, mine didn't. you had to register then download.

Anyway it's a known thing PT8 disks are not reliable and most likely faulty.

Try saving the DVDs as images using either Disk Utility or Toast.

It's not uncommon for CDs to screw up like this but still copy ok.

Problem is they won't even mount on his system. Apple has had serious problems with SuperDrives and reliability over the years. The one in my G$ Powerbook went south in less than 2 years and the one in my mid 2010 Mac Mini died in less than a year. Both drive exhibited the same symptoms as the op is having. Luckily the one in my iMac daw machine is still working.

The iBook's SuperDrive is a dvd drive. If the PT8 disks are double layer that could be an issue on some drives. Also it's not rare that optical disks delaminate internally over the years.

Sorry, if I overlook/miss something but can´t you just use a simple installer as
long as you have got your serial number?
I guess it must be possible to download the full LE8.0.4, then update to 8.0.5 and
you should be fine again.
All the hardware drivers and stuff are included in the LE8 installer.
You don´t have to install anything separately.
Just make sure have updated your Mac OS 10.6.x to the max which is a fully updated 10.6.8.
Then install this http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399 before installing
Pro Tools.
There you may find your LE8 installers.

Anyway the best of luck to you,
