Pro Tools 2021 license will run Pro Tools 12?

I have my finger on the button to begin a Pro Tools 2021.6 Ultimate subscription. However my hardware will not currently run that version. Will I be able to run 12HD (for example) using my new license until my hardware is updated?

Subscription license EULA actually only permits you to use the most current version, but if you are willing to challenge that, the "Pro Tools Perpetual" license will authorize anything from 12.6 onwards, and the installers are available in Avid Download Center.

I just noted you specified “Pro Tools Perpetual” rather than the subscription. Are you saying this won’t work with “Pro Tools Ultimate” subscription license? Thanks again, Janne.

I didn't actually say anything as I have never ever tried or even seen a subscription license. I am pretty certain that subscription license has same kind of method for checking auth eligibility as they cannot make the authorization process very complicated in PT software.

What's your hardware? Depending on how up to date your profile is we can't say for sure. But if it is up to date I'm running PT 2012.6 on a 5,1 cheesegrater Mac with 3.46 GHz cpu and 48 gig ram under OSX 10.13.6 no problem. Unsupported but it works. That's not to say it won't run future revisions/versions of PT. The biggest obstacle I have to moving up is I'd need a Metal compatible video card to go to a higher OSX. Right now said card (new) are going in the $700-$800 range.

Well as far as I read Subscription versions only works with the latest PT version so I would’t chance it if I were you without clearcut answers to this.

I can see if i can find out as soon as I get hold of someone at Avid.

i bought my perpetual PT ultimate licence last year as an upgrade from PTHD10 and i can download all pro tools versions since 10 till actual.
I had to surrender my PT HD 10 licence but buying the PT ultimate gave it back and also gave me the possibility to download PT HD 11 if needed.

That's all understood. We know perpetual licenses allow for running previous version of Protools. The question at hand however is about "SUBSCRIPTION" licenses and not "PERPETUAL" licenses with annual renewals. The general understanding is that subscription licenses only provide the ability to run the latest version of Protools but not previous versions. This has not been confirmed however, so some of us are trying to get the official answer for the OP.

Pretty controversial for me as a moderator to suggest something like breaking your EULA, but technically anyone who has subscription license and can access Avid Download Center could confirm if the subscription license opens everything 12.6 and later. Just sayin' -- purely logical thinking.
