Silly question
How do I find the key of the song that I'm mixing...thanks in advance

Well of course there are no set-in-stone rules, but find what chord is being playing right when the first verse starts. It is probably the same as what the song ends on, if there is not a dramatic key change in the song. That would point to the key of the song.
If you find the first chord of a verse (let's say it is "A"), then play a scale for that note, see if it fits the song. If it does, you have the key. The key is the one whose scale most easily accommodates the melody of the song. Paul

You can also try playing a single note ALL the time throughout the song. If it doesn't sound bad anywhere then it will probably be the key you're in.
If you're unsure as to the simple relationship between major and minor keys (eg C major and Aminor), find a basic book on music theory which will surely enlighten. Hope this helps |
