Default Am I paranoid? (net transaction)

I just ordered the sans amp plug in from Bomb Factory by credit card.
I just got an email back looking for a fax copy of my credit card along with a copy of their email receipt.
Is this normal procedure? Is it safe?
With all the net scams going on I'm reluctant to send my details to anyone.

I guess this seems obvious, but I would call and quiz them by phone. You could probably give them whatever extra info they need by phone. Also, was the email from a known BF email address?

I can´t remember exactly, but AFAIR I had to fax them a copy of my credit card, too, when I bought SansAmp some time ago.

You aren't paranoid - I would consider that out of line as well for anyone. Well, except maybe for BF.

Credit card merchants aren't supposed to do things like that. They can get their merchant facility revoked. Its no different than when they ask for photo ID when you use a credit card.

The merchant is allowed to ask for a copy of the front of the credit card for varification that the person possess the CC itself. They just can't ask for info like SS# or Driver Licence#.

FWIW - I had never heard of such a thing myself -

Until a couple weeks ago I wanted to buy a Will-Call pass for my son at Disneyland.

Had to fax over my card... Problem is, it's a gold card, which has gold lettering. You can't see [bleep] on the fax. I figured they could make out enough to do the thing, but no.

So I gave my son $75 cash and told him to have fun.

But there you go - it's not totally unprecedented.

Does anyone have a way of faxing a gold card so that the numbers are visible?

J

Tell them you put your card in the fax machine, which promptly crunched the card into pieces causing the fax machine to grind to a halt and while catching fire it ignited the curtains and burned your house down.

Tell them that you will be suing them for damages, and that if they are not willing to process the order then they can stuff it.

Then go out and buy a real Sans Amp.

I agree with that last idea: go out and buy a real Sansamp. I got so furious at various insulting nonsense that BF customer "support" put me through, that I never upgraded my Snasamp plugin to HD. they can stuff it.

I bought the real thing, and immediately heard a noticeable difference. Warmer, and with better response to amplitude.

It still amazes me that no-one else has made a bass-amp plugin model!
-of course, the BF Sans-Amp is a digital model of an analog simulation, so man.......

Oh yeah: When you read on the BF website that Mitchel Froom (absolute genious producer, IMO) uses the Sans Amp, they aren't lying, exactly, except that he uses the HARDWARE, not the plugin. Oops.

i've bought plugs off their website, including the sansamp, and they never asked for a fax of anything. maybe this is a new thing they are doing.
