Default PT 12.7.1 Video Engine Issues

I'm running PT 12.7.1 on an 8 Core Mac Pro 3,1 with Yosemite 10.10.5 and the Video Engine keeps popping up errors or it crashes PT.

The same issues occur with no Hardware/Drivers or when my Blackmagic Decklink Card and it's drivers are installed.

Is it possible that the 3,1 is just to old and causing compatibility issues.

Is there anyone out there that's running 12.7.1 on a Mac Pro with or without a Decklink Card successfully.

Thanks

The 3,1 Mac Pro is not "officially" supported for 12.7.

I was using an 8 core 3,1 for a long time and would run into vide playback issues from time to time. When I moved from PT 10HD to 12HD they got worse and only certain compression codecs (forget about mp4s) would playback smoothly etc...

I recently upgraded to a maxed out 5,1 with 10.2.4 and 12.7.1. Everything playback perfectly now, any codec I get. Video playback in PT is handled solely by the CPU and honestly I think the 3,1 just couldn't hack it anymore.

This actually has nothing to do with playback.

When I bring any video file in I get a dialogue box that comes up at least a dozen times and PT crashes almost every time before I can even try to play it back.

The error is:

The Video Engine had an unrecoverable error.
Would you like to reinitialize the Video Engine?

I also have a maxed out 5,1 but I'm in the middle of a two day DaVinci Resolve render that I can't stop. I will give it a try on my 5,1 tomorrow if these renders finish.

There are def. a bunch of threads on here about that error. I don't recall if anyone found a fix. If you can, try updating to Sierra. 10.2.4 and 12.7 has been the most stable combo for me since 10.3.8 and PT 10.

I've had the same horrendous issues with the video engine not being able to solidly and reliably play QuickTime files. I've tried different codecs , different BDM video drivers. All without success. What I did have yesterday was a breakthrough where I actually imported an MXF file and it behaved solidly with no crashes at all.
