Default PQ Cables and snakes????

Does anyone know if it would be possible to run PQ signal through a standard multi pair snake? Perhaps using pins 2 and 3 of two xlr connectors to supply the signal for one PQ? Trying to simplify my cable runs for 2012. Being able to run a 14 pair with a PQ built in would be awesome.

Thanks!

I'm not knowledge enough to be able to comment on if that's possible, but Gepco sells some nice cable that has Ethernet and such as well as pairs for audio sends.

http://www.gepco.com/

They can even do custom cable with what you need/want in it.

Keep it under 75', and you should be fine, even if it's analog.

Hi,

This should be possible, given the right type of cable. A standard 3-conductor+shield mic cable won't work, as PQ controllers use a 4 pin wiring scheme for data and power. The cable included with each unit is starquad microphone cable, wired as follows:

Pins connect one-for-one at each end, with
- pin 2 & 3 wires twisted together
- pin 1 & 4 wires twisted together
- shield connected (in addition to the twisted pair wire) to pin 1 at both ends

So if you can run a starquad snake it should work out to the rated 100 foot max. The only unknown is if there would be any crosstalk/noise from running the data lines within the same snake as mic level signals. Seems unlikely that this would happen if a quality, shielded cable is used, but is something be aware of and check for.

Sheldon
