Default 24/25 pitch shift

Following up on previous discussion regarding pitch for 25fps for cinema pitch correction.

Last week we mastered to dolby ds10 a film which was shot, edited and posted at 25fps. Naturally playback from the projector will slow everything down. The director wanted us to try and compensate the pitch down during the encoding.

Post master recorder, pre ds10, we tried both TC6000 (Vp8) and PurePitch on a mixPlus - both with marginal success. Pitch it did, but usable it was not - and on a mere 4%!! We use both regularly on dialogue, some music, lots of effects - work great - but on the complete program a total flop!

Waiting to try the DOlby 585 box. What tools have you had success with in pitching the entire program? This would normally be the other way around - from 24 going to 25 for video. Would there be a difference in the effectivness of the processors?

Thanks,
David

Hi David,

While PurePitch could work to shift the pitch of your material you would probably have better results using Speed, our AudioSuite Time and Pitch modification software. Depending on what the material is Speed should do a very good job. The one exception can be dry vocals, which tend to sound phasey. This is because the algorhythm that we wrote was designed to work on complex cords and mixes.
