Running Native Plugins uses a RAM. Depending on the plugin, it can be a lot.

It's a combination of CPU and RAM usage.

You might be running a plugin that just isn't all that happy running under Rosetta or on Big Sur. That's if you're even running Big Sur. If you're on Monterey then all bets are off.

Currently running Big Sur. Lets see how far i can push this system by not using Gullfoss on this session.

M1 is not the problem, lack of memory is.

So i was running the session at 96khz. I tried switching to 48khz and that seems to give me 15% more headroom on the CPU.

Will i be getting a noticeably better performance on M1 with 16GB memory? In that case, i will look to upgrade.

Unfortunately there is no upgrade path. It’s configured how it’s configured. You can’t add more RAM after purchase.

I meant selling off this machine and buying a 16GB model. But only if there is a noticeable difference.

I maxed out mine, at maybe more than 1000 plug-ins, and also did a test by recording 256 tracks at 32 samples of buffer. Incredible machine. Mine is the 16gb ram version.

But I've noticed that 2 cores are at 85-90% and the other two at +\- 20%, so it seems that pro tools doesn't use the full power of the 4 performance cores of the M1

Depends on your plugins. Here the load is spread evenly

All bets are off regarding the Pro Tools processor meter until it becomes M1 coded?

I think it'll be best to check the Mac OS metering found in the Applications\Utilities folder in the meantime.
